The Reality of Christianity

How real is Christianity? Many a man Know about Christianity. They could be Christians who are members of a local church. They could point to emblems associated with Christianity such as the cross, bible etc. Many may think having different symbols associated with Christianity is what makes one a Christian. Some may also misconstrue bearing a Christian name or being born into a Christian family as what makes one a Christian.

Some school of thought also believes that being a Christian is clutching your two hands together and maintaining a posture as someone who is praying and rounding off the prayer with the phrase “in Jesus’ name.”

However, the fact is none of the references above makes one a Christian. They could be things or actions that point to Christianity.

One could be a member of a local church for years and is involved in many religious activities in such assembly. But doesn’t know the reality of what they are doing.

In John 14: verse 4 to 6

4 “You know the way to the place where I am going.

5 Thomas said to him, “Lord, we don’t know where you are going, so how can we know the way?”

6 Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.

These men had been with Jesus for more than three years before they asked him this question. He responded to them “I am the way, the truth and the life”. He didn’t give them an open-ended response. He didn’t say I am one of the ways to get to God.  He said “I am the way, the truth and the life”.

He didn’t come to show the way; he is the way. He is not the truth speaker rather he is the truth. He is the life.

In verse   7 he says “If you really know me, you will know my Father as well. From now on, you do know him and have seen him.”

It means your acquaintance with Jesus is your acquaintance with God. It’s as simple as that. Your knowledge about Jesus is your knowledge about God. The life you have of Jesus is the life you have of God.

On this basis, Christianity is a relationship or fellowship with God found only in Christ Jesus. It means God relates with man on the basis of Christ Jesus. God’s revelation and description is only found in Jesus Christ.

Christianity is not what you do or try to do, it is your faith in what Christ has done.

If there is a knowledge you have in your soul that sees God outside his revelation in Christ, then you are not a Christian. It means you are not saved.

Jesus is not one of God’s ways of dealing with man. He is the only way, the only truth and the only life that is found in God.

All it takes to be saved is to believe in the redemptive work of Christ which is summarized as the death, burial and resurrection of Christ.

These are the facts that make the gospel sacrosanct.

On the contrary, if after one is born again and the realities of what happened at the new birth is not explained; such a person’s walk with God will be accidental and incidental.

Such a believer’s walk with God becomes hazy and wavy.

In Philemon 1:4-6, Paul writes Philemon and tells him:

4 “I thank my God, making mention of thee always in my prayers”

5″Hearing of thy love and faith, which thou hast toward the Lord Jesus, and toward all saints”

6″That the communication of thy faith may become effectual by the acknowledging of every good thing which is in you in Christ Jesus”

Verse 6 sheds more light on the essence of knowledge after one is born again. It says the degree of your effectiveness in your walk with God is dependent on your acknowledgment of every good thing in you because you are in Christ. To acknowledge is to have an exact, precise or accurate understanding. Your effectiveness as a believer in Christ Jesus is dependent on what you know with respect to the things available to you by virtue of your faith in Christ.

This kind of knowledge enables you to know who you are in Christ, what you have in Christ and what Christ can do through you.

Declaration: I receive knowledge of God’s word. I treasure what God has done for me in Christ. I walk in this reality.
